Damascus, Syria

A convoy of food and medical aid, organised by the Palestinian Authority to support Palestine refugees, arrived in Damascus on 8 August. The 17-truck convoy carried 360 tonnes of flour, rice, sugar, lentils, chickpeas, pasta and medicines, worth USD 650,000. The aid was donated by Palestinian companies, businesspeople, and individuals during the charitable month of Ramadan. The Palestinian Authority co-ordinated the shipment with Jordanian and Syrian authorities, including the General Authority for Palestine Arab Refugees (GAPAR).

The much-needed in-kind contribution, received by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) at its warehouses on 9 August, will be distributed to 2400 Palestinian refugee families affected by the events in Syria.

Joined by the representative of the Palestine Liberation Organisation to Syria, Ambassador Mahmoud al-Khaldi and Mr. Ali Mustafa, Director-General of GAPAR, the Director of UNRWA Affairs in Syria, Mr. Michael Kingsley-Nyinah, thanked the Palestinian Authority and the Palestinian people for their support and generosity towards Palestine refugees in Syria.
